Faganilin (1), a new lupene type triterpene has been isolated from the aerial parts of Fagonia indica Burm. f. var. indica along with ?-amyrin (2), lupeol (3) and ?-sitosterol (4). The structure of the new isolated compound was elucidated as 3?, 19, 21-trihydroxy-20(29)-lupene with the help of extensive spectroscopic studies depending on 1D and 2D-NMR.
