Abstract

The complexes of Fe (III) have been synthesized by pH- metric titration using ?- sitosterol as a ligand. ?sitosterol reacted with Iron chloride in 1:1, 1:2, 1:3 and 1:4 molar ratio to give metal complexes of the general formula [ML3X3] (M = Fe (III) , L = ligand and X = Cl? ). The complexes were characterized by analytical and spectral techniques. The analytical and spectral data suggested octahedral geometry. The data from antimicrobial activity showed that the metal complexes are more effective as equated to the ligand. The complexes showed a wide-range antibacterial activity against both gram-positive and gram-negative bacterial strains as well as significant antifungal activity against the applied fungal strains. Hence the synthesized complexes displayed remarkable antimicrobial activity as compared to ligand
